Omaha Tennis Association Grows Local Tennis

Andrea Gallagher | May 26, 2020

For more than 70 years, the Omaha Tennis Association has been a vital part of their community. With hundreds of members and a 12-person board of directors, the mission is to promote and develop tennis in the Omaha metropolitan area.

“We strive to accomplish our mission by organizing and providing volunteer support for: Net Generation/Smashers events for 10-under players, entry level junior events, junior team tennis and tournaments at all levels, adult tournaments and league sectional events, and wheelchair tournaments,” said Tracy Wright, President of the Omaha Tennis Association.

Wright said members enjoy perks such as social events like cookouts, tournament discounts and an annual awards luncheon. As he looks back on his second year as president, Wright is looking forward to opening up the public and city-owned courts that have been closed because of COVID-19.

“As we hopefully put the current COVID-19 pandemic in the rearview mirror, there are numerous opportunities to introduce tennis as a socially responsible, physical activity that respects physical distancing while promoting a healthy, active lifestyle,” he said.

Family memberships are $30 a year, single adults are $20 annually, seniors are $15, and juniors are $10. Facilities include Koch Family Tennis Center and Hanscom Indoor Tennis Center.

As for the future of the OTA, Wright said they will continue to leverage relationships with other privately-owned tennis facilities and provide support for USTA-sanctioned activities.
