College Players Return for Junior Team Tennis Exhibition Match
Two former junior standouts returned for an exhibition match in conjunction with the Omaha summer Junior Team Tennis league.
On June 28, the first day of the season, Samantha Mannix and Luke Moorhead played an exhibition match for the current Junior Team Tennis participants. Both are current collegiate tennis players with Mannix competing for the University of Iowa and Moorhead playing at Creighton University. During the match the Junior Team Tennis coordinator, Lisa Thomas, added commentary and then hosted a Q&A session with the two after they finished playing.
Mannix gave the juniors match advice, including how to deal with nerves. “I tell myself that no matter if I win or lose that I must try my hardest because no matter what I will take something away from the match, either outcome," Mannix said.
Mannix even came back during the second week to help coach the juniors during their matches. She gave them some guidance as they worked to improve their match play abilities.
Omaha’s Junior Team Tennis summer season concluded this July. Over the course of 3 weeks, 18 Junior players were split into two teams. They competed in a duel format that included boys/girls singles and doubles plus mixed doubles.
The Omaha Tennis Association is planning to do another session of Junior Team Tennis in the Winter of next year. For more information be sure to check out their website around Christmas.
