USTA Missouri Valley Adaptive Doubles Section Championships

September 11, 2023

USTA Missouri Valley recently hosted the Adaptive Doubles Section Championships at Woods Tennis Center in Lincoln. Doubles teams from around the section showed up to battle for a trip to the National Championships. This event an incredible opportunity to showcase differently abled athletes and their tennis skills. Athletes and volunteers, alike, enjoy every minute of these events that are geared toward friendly competition and camaraderie. Event volunteers especially have these events circled on their calendars every year.

The adaptvie doubles championship is a unique tournament that pairs one adaptive player and one unified partner. While the tournament was still heavily focused on fun, there was also a competitive aspect with a chance to advance to the 2023 USTA National Adaptive Tennis Championships on November 30-5, 2023 in Orlando, Florida. There was no shortage of star power at this year's event, with some of the section's top players showing up to compete.

Each year, this qualifier features some incredible high-level tennis from both the adaptive athletes and their partners. This year was no different with plenty of strong play to go around. Nathan Williams and his mom, Teresa, from Cedar Rapids, Iowa ended up emerging victorious with dominant performances throughout the competition. Nathan will be one of the first to tell you that he likes ot hit the ball hard, so that's what he did from start to finish.

Both Nathan and Teresa are very excited to go to Orlando to compete at Nationals. Please help us congratulate them and wish them luck this fall! To learn more about adaptive tennis, please click here.
