USTA Nebraska Spring Meeting

Andrea Gallagher | May 04, 2020

The USTA Nebraska Annual Spring Meeting was held on Saturday morning, May 2. The meeting was held via video chat because of the COVID-19 restrictions. More than 20 people from Kearney to Omaha attended the meeting which covered many items including how to move forward with the COVID-19 situation. Most people want to get back on the court, and USTA Nebraska is trying to figure out a safe way to do that.

USTA Tennis Service Representative Kara Heim said having the meeting online turned out to be a positive move, and going forward more meetings could possibly be online to better serve the entire state of Nebraska, including the next one on May 30, 2020.

“Because our district is an entire state, it’s not always a possibility for someone in the western part of the state to drive six-seven hours, attend a meeting and drive home,” she said. “Being able to have this meeting online made it easier for individuals to ‘attend’ and hopefully more people were informed.”

The meeting usually consists of people from the USTA Nebraska Board, chairs, and representatives for community tennis associations from across the state. In the past, they’ve been held in Omaha, Lincoln, Fremont, Grand Island and York.

USTA Nebraska is always looking for people who are interested in becoming more involved in the governing of tennis. If you would like to volunteer your time, please contact Lisa Thomas at lisathomasusta@icloud.com
