Hale Named Oklahoma City Adult League Coordinator

USTA Oklahoma | September 20, 2021

We are happy to announce that Kara Hale will be our new Oklahoma City Adult League Coordinator for USTA Oklahoma. Check out this Q & A with Kara to get to know her!

USTA Oklahoma: Where are you from?

Hale: I am originally from Big Spring, Texas.  Prior to moving to Edmond in 2012, we spent 12 years in Austin, Texas.  I was a little hesitant about leaving Austin, but I can honestly say that we love Edmond.  We have enjoyed raising our family here and I can’t imagine calling anywhere else home right now.

USTA Oklahoma: Do you play tennis?

Hale: I do play tennis and try to play as frequently as my schedule will allow.  Not only do I enjoy the game, but it has been a great way to get to know so many different people.

USTA Oklahoma: How long have you been playing tennis?

Hale: I originally started playing tennis in the 7th grade.  I was a basketball player, and our basketball coaches wanted us to participate in an off-season sport in the spring.  I was avoiding track, so I decided to play tennis.  I stopped playing tennis after high school, and picked the sport back up eight years ago, when my youngest son started kindergarten.

USTA Oklahoma: What are you most excited about being the new OKC League Coordinator?

Hale: I am most excited about the opportunity to work with so many amazing people affiliated with the USTA program.  I love meeting new people, so I am looking forward to getting to know all the captains and working with them as well as getting to know the players.

USTA Oklahoma: Tell us about your family

Hale: I have been married to my husband Lane for 17 years.  We have two boys who keep us on our toes.  My oldest son, Evan, is a freshman at Memorial High School.  My youngest son, Samuel, is a 7th grader at Cimarron Middle School.

USTA Oklahoma: What is your favorite sport, besides tennis?

Hale: Basketball is my first love and my favorite sport.  My dad was a high school boy’s coach, and he passed along his love of the game to me at a young age.  March Madness is my favorite time of the year!

USTA Oklahoma: What is your favorite food?

Hale: I am going to have to go with guacamole.  Being from Texas, I have had my fair share of Mexican food.  Chips and salsa are not too bad either!

USTA Oklahoma: What are your hobbies?

Hale: My hobbies include reading, trying new restaurants, and watching any college sport…except for maybe baseball.  Sorry baseball fans!  However, my favorite past-time is talking on the phone with my two older sisters.

USTA Oklahoma: Anything else fun we would like us to know about yourself?

Hale: I find it ironic that I ran a marathon after I graduated from college.  I did everything I could to avoid track in middle and high school, and I decided I could run a marathon for some reason.  What I learned from that process was that you can do a lot of things if you set your mind to it, commit to hard work, and have a little belief in yourself.  If I can do it, anyone can!  I also realized after doing it once, I would never do it again.
