Jenks High School Tennis Serves Up Success with First Serve Tulsa
In November, the Jenks High School Tennis Team hosted their annual Dawn-to-Dusk fundraiser to raise money for First Serve Tulsa, a local non-profit organization whose vision is to strengthen the lives and enhance the character of Tulsa's youth through tennis and education. The team chose First Serve because of their commitment to providing equal opportunities in access to tennis education, equipment, facilities and training. Many of the players also volunteer for First Serve during Spring Break camps, summer sessions and after-school programming as well as during their League of Exceptional Players training camps.
For the fundraiser, the team committed to playing tennis or pickleball from sunrise until sunset among themselves and with many members of the Jenks Schools community, including Terry Keeling and Melissa Abdo (School Board Members), Tony Dillingham (Athletic Director), Rob Loeber (Director of Communications), Jennifer Blackshare (Middle School Principal), Will Parham (Freshman Academy Assistant Principal) as well as Adrian Clark and Julie Harrelson (Middle School Tennis Team Coaches). The team has won 36 State Titles for Jenks High School over the years and many family members, friends, former players, and local tennis professionals came out to challenge the reigning 6A Champs to a round of pickleball or a game of tennis.
The event was a huge success and raised more money than any previous year. In December, the team was proud to present a check to Patti Burton - Executive Director of First Serve Tulsa. Julie Harrelson, the League of Exceptional Children Director and Peter McCorkle, LaFortune Tennis Tournament Director, were also in attendance. Presenting the donation was Jenks High School Varsity Tennis Coach, Jeff Wollmerhauser, and Jenks Athletic Director, Tony Dillingham.
