October Spotlight of the Month - Coach
Each month, USTA Oklahoma will highlight a player, a volunteer and/or coach, and a NJTL (National Junior Tennis & Learning) or Adaptive Tennis Player. After selecting the 3 winners, we will sit down for Q & A with the spotlight of the month.
- Athlete-- Any player that has good sportsmanship & dedication to the sport, whether they are just starting out in a Team Challenge or they are a National ranked player we would love to hear who you would recommend from your team or facility
- Volunteer/Coach--A person that has gone above and beyond for your facility or program.
- NJTL/Adaptive Player--A player that has demonstrated hard work and dedication they have put forth in their program.

Do you play tennis?
Severe tennis elbow seven years ago put a stop to playing tennis - which actually became blessing in disguise - freeing up time with the academy.
NOTE: Played junior tennis in Tulsa (actually worked front desk at LaFortune Park from 9-12th grades), and played as adult on a number of 4.0 and 4.5 USTA teams.
Favorite tennis memory?
Taking our 14U team to the USTA Junior Team Tennis National Championships in Orlando - and winning!

Tulsa! Proud graduate of Metro Christian Academy's inaugural Class of 1984.
How long have you been playing?
Have been involved with the sport as a player, coach or administrator for 44 years.

Barry Switzer
Who is your tennis coach?
Never had formal instruction…hit against the wall and with friends. Pre-match ritual or meal? None that I stuck to for long periods of time…

Yonex EZONE 98 (Osaka's racquet)
Forehand or Backhand?
100% Backhand (and backhand lobs)
Favorite sport other than tennis?
College football and golf.
