Oklahoma Baptist University has a few new championship banners to hang.

Oklahoma Baptist claimed its first national championship in men's tennis Friday with a 5-1 win over Campbellsville.

The Bison finish at 26-5, a record for most wins in a season. OBU ends the year on a 15-match win streak.

"This guys team is like no other team I've had," said Coach Peter McCorkle. "They are so persistent. This Campbellsville team is No. 5 in the NAIA and defeating them is an excellent accomplishment. Our seniors might have had a little chip on their shoulder after losing to them in the semifinals last year. Their doubles teams are so good and we took two of the three matches. Our guys were just ready."

The women's team also claimed its first national tennis championship Friday with a 5-1 win over Indiana Wesleyan, completing the program's best season.

Rouxanne Janse van Renbsurg earned Tournament Outstanding Player honors and Peter McCorkle, in his final match as coach, won Coach of the Year. McCorkle will take a position at Oral Roberts University in the fall.

"We saw the same thing from the girls we've seen all season- a lot of determination and a lot of heart," said McCorkle. "Indiana Wesleyan is just as good as they were last year when they beat us in the finals. Our girls just stepped up. We talked a lot about last year. That was a disappointing loss. We were ready to play."
