Vanessa Ong—2019’s Female Junior Player of the Year

March 24, 2020

USTA Oklahoma’s 2019 Female Junior Player of the Year is Vanessa Ong.

Ong was born and raised in Oklahoma City where she began playing tennis at the age of six. By the time she was fourteen years old, Ong made the commitment to move away from home to Tulsa where she began training at the Tucker Tennis Academy.

That same year, Ong attended her first grand slam juniors’ event, the US Open, where she reached the Quarterfinals. Since then, she has been traveling the world fulfilling her dreams of becoming one of the top junior players in the United States.

She recently won her first pro singles title, the 2019 ITF World Tour Women's $15K in Lawrence, Kansas, at the age of seventeen. Her two coaches are Trent Tucker and Matias Marin.

Ong is well-respected by her peers and coaches, and truly understands the meaning of hard work.

She is committed to UCLA on a full tennis scholarship in the fall.
