USTA St. Louis Adult Leagues New Staff Member and Player Party!

Josh Sellmeyer | May 04, 2022

USTA St. Louis is encouraging adult league participants to mark your calendars for the annual Adult League Player Party which will take place on Saturday, June 11. The fun, adults-only event is free to attend and will occur from 3:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Dwight Davis Tennis Center in Forest Park. Please RSVP using this form if you plan to attend.

“It’s a great chance for players to mix and mingle and get to know each other both on and off the court,” said Kelly Woods, USTA St. Louis 40-plus league coordinator. “We plan to have fun games, skills challenges and plenty of food and beverages.  We’ll even have the pickleball courts available to enjoy.“

Woods — who began her role running the 40 & Over, 55 & Over and 65 & Over USTA St. Louis leagues earlier this year — will be helping plan her first adult league player party. She said the get-together is a fantastic opportunity for our USTA staff to show our local league players how much we appreciate them.

“It is a great way to celebrate the season. It is a great way to celebrate each other,” Woods said. “In this type of environment, it’s more fun and a lot easier to visit and mix with people.  This includes players at other levels, too, so even higher or lower levels can play together.  We’ll also have a bunch of our player captains attending too – so you can inquire about new teams to join!”

Woods started competing in USTA about eight years ago and has played indoors and outdoors in 18 & Over, 40 & Over and 55 & Over leagues. Woods was interested in the behind-the-scenes work it takes to schedule courts and operate leagues, so she felt the 40/50/65 -plus league coordinator position was a great match.

In addition to her USTA St. Louis role, Woods has worked the front desk at Vetta Sports West the past four years. Woods spent the 14 years before that in the IT industry working for Saepio.

Woods was working remotely for Saepio when the business was bought out by another company, who then proceeded to lay off all Saepio employees. She landed at Vetta Sports West and has loved the chance to interact with plenty of tennis players.

“It was a way for me to get to know more people and be on more teams,” Woods said. “It’s now a great way for me to talk about USTA to a lot of the players. It is a big segue. I’ve been surprised at how many times I can talk to players and get them more interested in USTA. Beginner players are the ones I’m typically able to convince to start playing USTA, which is fun.”

Woods hopes to grow participation in USTA St. Louis leagues and help cultivate opportunities for players of all levels. She can be reached via email at 40plus@ustastl.com. For more information about the 2022 USTA St. Louis adult league player party, individuals can contact leagues@ustastl.com.
