Wilbur Jones (second from left) is no stranger to strong performances in the ITF World Team Championships, as pictured here in 2023.

Wilbur Jones of Shawnee, Kansas (USTA Heart of America) recently helped Team USA to a third-place finish in the Men’s 85 & Over division of the International Tennis Federation (ITF) 75, 80 and 85 World Team Championships.

The international event took place Oct. 5-10 on the red clay courts of Bol, Croatia. Jones and his trio of teammates—captain Robert Quall (California), Jerald B. Hayes (Indiana) and Donald Mathias (Virginia)—secured third in the Lorne Main Cup.

American teams captured three of the six team titles at the tournament, which is the super-senior equivalent of the Davis Cup and Billie Jean King Cup competitions. In total, 70 teams representing 23 nations competed.

U.S. players also dominated the ITF 75, 80 and 85 World Individual Championships, snagging seven titles there. For a full story on the team and individual tournaments—including results—click here.
