U.S. captures two titles at 2026 World Tennis Masters World Team Championships

November 05, 2026

American teams won two of the six titles at the World Masters 75-, 80- and 85-and-over World Team Championships, held on the red clay courts at the Kalimera Kriti Hotel & Village Resort in Crete, Greece.

The tournament is the super-senior equivalent of the Davis Cup and Billie Jean King Cup competitions, where top tennis players represent their countries in the 75-, 80-, 85-and-over age groups.

This year’s teams took home titles in the Gardner Mulloy Cup (men’s 80 & over) and Angela Mortimer Cup (women’s 85 & over), continuing its recent domination in these divisions, bringing home the Gardner Mulloy Cup for the fifth consecutive year and 21st time overall. Since the division's inception in 1996, the Americans have only missed the finals twice (2015, 2018).

The U.S. has won the Angela Mortimer Cup every year since 2019, extending their undefeated streak to six years. Donna Fales of Coral Gables, Fla., carried the team to the title when she played every singles and doubles match and went undefeated at 8-0 during the team event.

The American teams finished as the finalists in the Lorne Main Cup (men's 85 & over) and Doris Hart Cup (women's 80 & over). The Lorne Main Cup team rebounded from missing the finals last year to reaching the final round this year, while the women on the Doris Hart Cup team have made the finals in nine of the last 10 World Team Championships the Americans have participated in.

The Queens’ Cup (women's 75 & over) team overcame some bad injury luck to still finish third, while the Bitsy Grant Cup team (men's 75 & over) finished in 5th place.

The team event featured a total of 78 teams representing 27 nations from around the globe as they competed to become world champions.

Following the World Masters Team Championships, the individual championships were held at the same site. The American athletes had a great showing across all age groups.

In the women’s 75 & over doubles, Liane Bryson (San Diego) and Ann Stanley (Lake Sherwood, Calif.) came from a set down to beat the Australian team of Susan Jamieson and Sheryl Kerick, 3-6, 7-6(4) 10-6.

The men’s 80 & over singles would see Michael Beautyman (Lake Worth, Fla.) claim the title, while fellow American Jimmy Parker (Santa Fe, N.M.) retired while trailing 4-1 in the first set. Beautyman and Parker contested the doubles final as well, but the team fell in a heartbreaker to Great Britain’s team of Chris Ornstein & Richard Tutt, 6-4, 2-6 11-9. Susan Kimball (Oak Bluffs, Mass./Sarasota, Fla.) beat #1 seed Gail Benedetti from France, 6-3, 6-4 to win the women’s 80 & over singles title.

The women’s 80 & over doubles was guaranteed to have an American team claim the title as Brenda Carter (Charlseton, S.C.) and Mary Alice Pisani (Reno, N.V.) went point for point with Doris Hart teammates Susan Kimball and Betty Wachob (Panama City, Fla.), with Carter and Pisani eventually triumphing 6-2, 2-6, 10-8.

The 90 & over divisions were loaded with American legends as 92-year old King Van Nostrand (Vero Beach, Fla.) lost to No. 1 seed Herbert Althaus (GER), 6-3, 6-2, but the two would join forces in the doubles for the title over Canada’s George Morfitt and Germany’s Gerhard Specht, 6-3, 6-0.

The women’s 90 & over doubles would see the team of Judith Smith (Brookline, Mass.) and Carol Wood (Rockville, Md.) win the round-robin tournament event after going undefeated.  Finally the 90 & over mixed-doubles would see the American team of Judith Smith and Jerald Burton Hayes (Carmel, Ind.) defeat the team of Beatrice Darrigrand (FRA) and Gerhard Specht (GER), 6-2, 6-0.

American athletes continue to prove that tennis is the sport for a lifetime, by snagging a total of nine titles between the 75-, 80-, 85-, and 90-and-over team & individual championships.
