A week after capturing the title at the 18 & Over 3.5 National Championship, another USTA Texas team captained by Jason Freeman can call itself national champions.

Freeman's 40 & Over 4.0 men's squad, and Katherine Baker's squad out of USTA Southwest and Scottsdale, Ariz. were the winners of the 40 & Over 4.0 National Championship in Surprise, Ariz. over Columbus Day weekend.

With 24 players on the roster throughout the season, depth proved key to Freeman's team's championship run.

A total of eight different players helped secure points in a pair of identical 3-2 wins in the semifinals and final, as the Texas squad beat teams from the Intermountain and Florida sections to seal the championship.

The Southwest women's team's strength came in the form of the doubles game.

Baker's squad swept all three doubles flights in each of its semifinal and championship matches, scoring victories over teams from the Southern California and Pacific Northwest sections to take the national title.

With a similarly large roster and based out of the Phoenician club in Scottsdale, Baker's team had a total of 19 different players over the course of the year.
