Join the USTA for a virtual panel highlighting the women shaping the future of tennis

In celebration of Women's History Month, the USTA held a virtual panel on Thursday, March 19 highlighting the next generation of women shaping the future of tennis, moderated by Michelle Yu, an Emmy Award-winning reporter and anchor. We heard from some of the sport's rising leaders—from those driving strategic initiatives at the highest levels of the game to those redefining culture and community, and coaching future champions.

Six amazing women discussed their careers and the impact they've made on tennis, from the grassroots game to the sport's biggest stages. Continue reading to learn more about them.

 

Michelle Yu, moderator

 

Michelle Yu is an Emmy Award winning reporter and anchor having covered breaking news and sports for more than a decade. She is currently an anchor on Asset TV - the leading online TV channel for investment professionals and a tennis announcer for various ATP/WTA tournaments. She is the first Asian female sportscaster in New York City. Her broadcasting career began at NY1 News covering the five boroughs. 

PANELISTS

 

Ayan Broomfield, NCAA tennis champion & philanthropist

Born in Toronto, Ontario, Ayan began playing tennis at a young age and quickly developed a passion for the sport. She went on to win the NCAA Championship in Doubles at UCLA in 2019 and has since competed on the ITF Women’s Circuit and WTA Tour. She's the founder of Ayan’s Aces, an initiative dedicated to empowering and increasing representation for women of color in tennis and across other major sporting platforms. Ayan also runs the Ayan Broomfield Foundation, which provides clinics and mentorship programs to make tennis more accessible to low-income families and children.

 

Christine Stromberg, Director, US Open Player Services

Christine Stromberg joined USTA in 2019, as part of the player operations and services team. She is currently the director of US Open Player Operations and Services and oversees the US Open Player Relations Strategic Plan and all aspects of US Open player operations. Prior to joining the USTA, Christine served as the program coordinator at the Atkins Tennis Center and Khan Outdoor Tennis Complex at the University of Illinois until becoming the director of the facility.

 

Jasmine Henderson, Founder, DFW Black Tennis
Jasmine Henderson is the founder of DFW Black Tennis, a community-driven organization expanding access, visibility, and opportunity in the sport across the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. Just three years after its founding, DFW Black Tennis was named USTA Texas CTA of the Year, becoming the first Black organization in Texas to receive the honor. The organization continues to create culturally relevant programming that connects new and competitive players across the region.

 

Nicole Dunn, Co-Founder, richsport inc. | Interior & retail designer
Nicole Dunn is a Miami-based designer, entrepreneur, and lifelong athlete with 17 years of experience in the interior design industry. She is the co-founder of richsport inc., a venture she launched with her childhood best friend, Sarah Koudouzian, to bring bold, high-energy design to tennis racquet accessories. Originally from Los Angeles , Nicole’s professional foundation was built in San Francisco, where she spent four years coaching high school tennis while completing her degree.

 

Sarah Koudouzian, Co-Founder, richsport inc. | USA Today best-selling author, fitness entrepreneur
Sarah Koudouzian is the co-founder of richsport inc., a design-forward tennis accessories brand she launched with her childhood best friend, Nicole Dunn. A former top-ranked competitive tennis player, Sarah stepped away from tennis for ten years after an injury and burnout forced her to redefine her path. During that decade, she launched an online fitness company and became a co-author of a national bestselling book. Now back in the sport on her terms, she’s channeling her love of the game into building richsport.
