The Meyer family from Rockport, Maine, received the Ralph W. Westcott USTA Family of the Year Award at the USTA Annual Meeting & Conference, held in Orlando, Fla. The award, which emphasizes the theme that tennis is a family game, is given annually to a family that volunteers to promote amateur tennis.

At the core of the Meyer family’s deep involvement in tennis is a commitment to service to the community. Seth, Erin, and their son Will actively mentor the next generation of tennis players. Seth has been the Tennis Director at Mid-Coast Recreation Center (MRC) for the past two decades. He works to increase tennis participation by organizing numerous free or heavily-subsidized programs, including "Tennis for Fun" for adults with learning differences and various youth clinics.

Additionally, Seth hosts multiple nonprofit fundraising tournaments for causes such as mental health and world hunger, with the family's "Serving to End World Hunger" event raising over $100,000. He also actively mentors local coaches and high school players, making a lasting, generational impact on the entire regional tennis community. In 2024, despite a diagnosis of advanced-stage cancer, Seth maintained contact with the tennis community and was able to attend his son's State championships.

Seth met his wife, Erin, while playing tennis. She has taken on an active volunteering role as the head of the local high school’s Tennis Boosters organization. In this capacity, she provides essential support by coordinating a 'team store' for gear, driving players to matches and tournaments, and actively cheering on all participants. Through her efforts, Erin educates spectators and fosters a sense of warmth and community among tennis families.

Will Meyer, Seth and Erin’s son, is the No. 2 boys' singles player in Maine. He volunteers with after-school and weekend junior programs and mentors many young tennis players in the area.

“The Meyer family has made tennis a true centerpiece of their community,” said Brian Vahaly, USTA President and interim co-CEO. “Their hands-on commitment, whether introducing new players to the game or creating opportunities for others to stay involved, has had a real and lasting impact across Maine. They represent the kind of energy and generosity that helps our sport grow in the right way.”

The Ralph W. Westcott USTA Family of the Year Award was created by the USTA in 1965.
