USTA announces teams for 2026 World Tennis Masters 75-, 80-, & 85-and-over World Team Championships
The United States Tennis Association (USTA) announced the players who will represent the United States at the World Masters 75-, 80- and 85-and-over World Team Championships, which will be held Oct. 18-23 on red clay courts at the Kalimera Kriti Hotel & Village Resort in Crete, Greece.
The tournament is the super-senior equivalent of the Davis Cup and Billie Jean King Cup competitions, where top American tennis players represent their country in the 75-, 80-, 85-and-over age groups.
The event will feature a total of 78 teams representing 27 nations from around the globe as they compete to become world champions. The Americans will look to retain three of the six cups, after last year’s American teams brought home titles in the Gardner Mulloy Cup (men’s 80 & over), Queens’ Cup (women’s 75 & over), and Angela Mortimer Cup (women’s 85 & over), continuing the nation’s recent domination of the men’s 80 & over and women’s 85 & over divisions. The Americans will look to hoist their fifth consecutive Gardner Mulloy Cup, and their sixth Angela Mortimer Cup. After winning the Queens’ Cup for the first time since 2017, the U.S. 75 & over women will look to make it back-to-back.
Following the World Masters Team Championships, the individual championships will be held from Oct. 24-31 at the same site. The American athletes had a great showing last year and will hope to repeat last year’s success, led by Donna Fales of Coral Gables, Fla., who claimed the trifecta in 2025 by winning the 85+ singles and doubles (w/ Angela Mortimer Cup teammate Roz King) titles and 80+ mixed title (w/ Fred Drilling).
Naples’ own Fred Drilling also took home a men’s doubles title with Gardner Mulloy teammate Jimmy Parker. Gwenda Ward nabbed a mixed doubles title in the 75+ category and finished runner-up in the singles. Also bringing home titles were Brian Cheney & David Fish (men’s 75+ doubles) and Susan Kimball & Betty Wachob (women’s 80+ doubles).
American athletes continue to prove that tennis is the sport for a lifetime, by snagging a total of ten titles last year between the 75-, 80-, 85-and-over team & individual championships.
