Adam Molda serves as President of the USTA New England Board of Directors. With 34 years in the tennis coaching industry, including working as a Director of Tennis and Club Owner, he brings extensive leadership and a practical perspective to the Board. Adam is dedicated to facility sustainability and expanding access to the sport through initiatives like the NJTL network.

Adam shares his tennis story below:

Why did you decide to join the USTA New England Board?

I love tennis. Tennis is an incredible sport and I’ve experienced firsthand how profoundly it can impact people’s lives. Over the course of my career, I’ve seen tennis build confidence, create opportunities, and form lifelong friendships and communities.

Because of that, it has always been my personal mission to spread the love of tennis and help more people experience everything the sport has to offer.

Volunteering with USTA New England felt like a natural way to do that. As the governing body for tennis, USTA New England plays a critical role in growing the game, supporting facilities and coaches, and making tennis more accessible to people of all backgrounds. Being part of that effort has been incredibly meaningful to me.

What is your professional background?

My entire career has been in the tennis industry. I’ve been a tennis coach for more than 34 years and spent 18 years serving as a Director of Tennis.

Seven years ago, I founded Spark Fitness and Tennis Club where I now focus on building a modern tennis and fitness community while continuing to grow participation in the sport.

Adam Molda is in his final year as USTA New England President.

Throughout my career, I’ve worked with players of all ages and levels, built adult and junior development programs, and helped operate and grow tennis facilities. My career has always been centered around using tennis as a vehicle to positively impact people and communities.

How has your expertise helped USTA New England achieve its mission?

Having spent my entire professional life on the front lines of the tennis industry - as a coach, director, club operator, and NJTL founder - I bring a practical perspective to the board.

I understand the challenges and opportunities that coaches, facility operators, and program leaders face every day. That experience helps me contribute to conversations about growing participation, supporting facilities, and strengthening the tennis ecosystem across New England.

Whether it’s developing programs that bring new players into the sport, supporting facility sustainability, or expanding community-based initiatives, my goal has always been to help ensure tennis continues to grow and thrive for future generations.

What USTA New England initiative are you most passionate about?

This is like asking someone who their favorite child is. USTA New England is doing so many amazing things to grow the sport and make tennis more accessible.

One initiative that I’m especially passionate about is the continued support and expansion of the NJTL network. NJTLs are nonprofit organizations that provide free or low-cost tennis programming combined with educational enrichment for underserved youth.

Across New England, we have incredible NJTL organizations introducing tennis to kids who might not otherwise have the opportunity to play. With the support of USTA New England, these programs are expanding access to the sport and opening doors for young people through education, mentorship, and community.

Seeing the impact these programs have on kids and families is one of the most rewarding aspects of being involved in tennis.

What is something you're most proud to have seen accomplished as a USTA New England volunteer?

Over the last decade, New England has been facing an indoor tennis facility crisis. Many facilities are aging and increasingly expensive to maintain, while at the same time competing with other sports and activities for players.

At the same time, many club owners are approaching retirement, and the reality is that in many cases the land is worth more as a development project than as a tennis facility. This has already led to the loss of several indoor facilities in our region, and others remain at risk.

To help address this challenge, USTA New England launched the Facility Owners and Operators Network. The goal is to bring owners and operators together to share best practices, discuss new technologies and trends, explore shared services that can help control costs, and build a supportive professional network.

As a club owner myself, I know how isolating the role can sometimes feel. Creating a community where owners can learn from each other, collaborate, and support one another is incredibly valuable for the long-term sustainability of tennis facilities in our region.

Why should someone consider volunteering as a board member?

Serving as a board member is an opportunity to do meaningful work that truly makes a difference. Tennis has the power to change lives and being involved at the leadership level allows you to help shape the future of the sport in New England.

It’s also an incredible opportunity to learn and grow. Through my involvement with USTA, I’ve been able to connect with passionate, thoughtful leaders across the tennis industry. The networking and knowledge sharing have made me a better operator and leader in my own organization.

If you care deeply about tennis and want to surround yourself with smart, dedicated people who share that passion, volunteering with USTA New England is a rewarding way to contribute to something bigger than yourself.
