2018 Spring State Tournament Results
North Dakota Girls
Congratulations to Minot on winning their first girls state team title in 27 years as they defeated West Fargo Cheyenne 3-2. Minot won at the #1 and #3 singles positions and at #2 doubles. At #2 doubles, Gwen Mathews and Joelle Fetty of Minot defeated Pooja Chemeti and Mirandi Sommerfield in a third-set thriller 5-7. 6-4, 6-4.
Sophomore Shaelynn Johnson of Grand Forks Red River won her second state singles title with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Haya Dodin of Minot, while the doubles team of sophomore Monti Knewtson and eighth grader Tianna Gu claimed their first title 6-3, 7-6 (4) over Reagan Ingstad and Kadi Halgrimson of Valley City. Knewtson won the state singles crown last year.

Wisconsin Boys
Sam Bochman of Altoona/Fall Creek was fourth in the Division 2 singles at the 2018 Wisconsin State Tournament in Madison, Wis. Bochman lost in the semifinals to top-seeded Casey Johnson of Kohler 6-2, 6-1, and then lost the thirtd-place match to Daniel Taleghani of University School of Milwaukee 6-1, 0-6, 6-4.
The team competition is June 8-9 at Madison. Eau Claire Memorial will play Arrowhead.

South Dakota Boys
Congratulations to Sioux Falls Lincoln and to Lincoln's Sam Dobbs and Sioux Falls Roosevelt's Aiden Nguyen and Spencer Smith for taking home the titles May 17-19 at the 2018 South Dakota Boys State Tennis Tournament in Rapid City.
Lincoln won its fifth straight team championship with 629 team points, followed by Rapid City Stevens with 502 and Sioux Falls Roosevelt with 428 points.
In the individual competition, Lincoln's Sam Dobbs followed in the footsteps of his brother, Kaleb, by winning his first South Dakota Flight 1 Singles Championship with a 6-2, 6-7, 6-3 win over Spencer Smith of Sioux Falls Roosevelt High School. Kaleb Dobbs won the state singles title the past three years and had teamed with his brother to win the doubles title as well. Chris Harris of Sioux Falls Washington won at the number 2 singles position with a 6-4, 2-6, 7-5 win over Gage Gohl of Sioux Falls Lincoln. At #3 singles, Graham Leonard of Lincoln beat Ben Anderson of Stevens 4-6, 6-0, 6-3. Rahul Giri of Lincoln overcame Zack Ridl of Sioux Falls O'Gorman 6-4, 5-7, 6-4. Dawson Siegrist of Stevens defeated Landon DeBoer of Sioux Falls Lincoln 6-2, 6-1 at #5 singles, while Gavin Schmit beat Ty Studer of Stevens 6-3, 6-3.
In South Dakota, six singles champions and three doubles champions are crowned.
In Flight 1 doubles, Nguyen and Smith overcame Cade Damgaard and Will McDowell of O'Gorman 6-3, 6-7, 6-2. Adam Loes and Baley Miller of Mitchell won Flight 2 title over Leonard and Giri 5-7, 6-4, 10-6. Colton Hellwig and Spencer Titus of Aberdeen Roncalli defeated Mark Tang and Studer of Stevens 5-7, 6-2, 6-1.
