Level 2 Nationals -   Allen, Young Finalists

Congratulations to current University of Minnesota redshirt freshman and USTA Northern top junior player Jackson Allen of Shakopee, Minn., who earned finalist honors in singles and doubles at the USTA National Boys 18s Level 2 Tournament at the Plaza Tennis Center in Kansas City, Mo., and to Karin Young (Apple Valley, Minn.), who earned doubles finalist honors at the USTA National Girls 14s Level 2 in Plainfield, N.J.

Allen, who was seeded #2, won four matches before falling in the finals to top-seeded Alex Brown (Urbandale, Iowa). Allen opened the tournament with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Brett Wolters (Riverfield, N.J.). In the round of 16, he defeated Max Kurzban (Overland Park, Kan.) 6-4, 6-3 and then overcame Conrad Russell (Palo Alto, Calif.) 7-5, 7-5 in the quarters. In the semifinals, he handled Steven Forman (Troy, Mich.) 6-2, 6-2 before losing to Brown 6-2, 6-4.

 

Brown also bested Allen in the doubles finals as he and partner Brady Draheim (Prairie Village, Kan.) defeated Allen and Carson Haskins (Ballwin, Mo.). Allen and Haskins had won three matches prior to the finals.

Young and partner Saige Roshkoff (Haverford, Pa.) won three matches before falling in the finals to Mya Bird (Norfolk, Va.) and Robin Montgomery (Washington, DC) 7-5.
