USTA Northern California Tyler Nii Memorial Scholarship Award
The USTA Northern California Tyler Nii Task Force awards the Tyler Nii Memorial Scholarship Award to two high school tennis players.
2019 Award Winners
Taylor Gould played on the Varsity Girls Tennis Team at Menlo High School in Atherton for four years. She is now a student at Villanova University in Philadelphia, majoring in Mechanical Engineering and a member of the tennis team.
As a high school student Taylor Gould generously committed to her community and is a member of several charity organizations. She has been a member of National Charity League for 8 years (VP of Philanthropy in 2015) and has worked with organizations such as Meals on Wheels, The Ronald McDonald House, Lytton Gardens, and Habitat4Humanity, just to name a few.
Taylor also volunteered and coached at East Palo Alto Tennis and Tutoring (EPATT). She raised over $2,500 for EPATT through two Aces4Kidz fundraisers which she coordinated with her Menlo team throughout the year. Lastly she volunteered in the Leadership program in the high school ministry at Menlo Church.
Cynthia Hom was the Captain of the Monta Vista High School Girls Tennis Team in Cupertino for four years. As team manager this past season, Cynthia added this responsibility on top of her school work and prepping for college applications.
Being captain meant organizing transportation, food for the matches, and relaying information from her coach to her teammates. In addition to being a very positive and dedicated teammate, Cynthia is also a dedicated community member. She is consistently giving of her time at Via West, a day camp for children with disabilities and physical disabilities. In her free time, Cynthia enjoys activities like swimming, archery, and arts and crafts.
