Phoenix Orgs Receive Micro Grant Funding From USTA
Four organizations from the Phoenix metropolitan area were recently awarded USTA Micro Grants totaling nearly $40K for their efforts to grow tennis. The four organizations chosen for these financial awards were Youth on Court (Tempe, AZ), Phoenix Black Tennis Club (Phoenix), Nunez Tennis (Mesa, AZ) and the Latin American Tennis Foundation (Goodyear, AZ).
Youth on Court, a junior tennis program that enables kids under the age of 18 to receive free tennis court time at participating tennis facilities in the Phoenix-area, will use their $10K grant to bolster their offerings, as well as run Kids’ Day events and other free activies.
Phoenix Black Tennis Club, a newly-formed social tennis group for African-Americans, will use their $9,880 grant to deliver and expand their already robust clinic offerings to additional locations and players, scholarship new players, particularly in underserved locations.
Nunez Tennis, a tennis provider out of Mesa, Arizona, is looking to use their $10K grant to expand their youth program and bring more young players into tournaments, particularly to help families travel to experience a new level of tennis. They also are trying to expand programming to retirees in Mesa, a large retirement community in the East Valley of Phoenix.
Latin American Tennis Foundation, a National Junior Tennis Learning (NJTL) chapter, aims to increase their junior programming through Red Ball events and a dedicated Hispanic Tennis event with their $10K grant.
USTA recently approved an additional $5 million over five years in local funding as part of their Micro Grant initiative, with the hope of quickly getting money to providers that have exceptional skill in delivery of programs. The application process for 2025 was extremely competitive.
These funds will ultimately assist more than 120 local grassroots organizations nationally in launching new Community Tennis Associations, running local Red Ball Tennis activations, building teams of tennis ambassadors, and providing equipment to under-resourced areas and programs.
USTA Micro-Grants will be available again in 2026, and the USTA encourages organizations to apply for support when the grants become available early next year.
