2017 ADULT 65 & OVER SECTIONAL RESULTS
Houston and San Antonio each had two winning teams, while the other winners hailed from Dallas and Fort Worth at the 2017 Adult 65 & Over Championships held in New Braunfels.
Ladies 6.0 Champions - San Antonio
San Antonio went undefeated, finishing with a team score of 4-0 to win the Ladies 6.0 Championship for the third straight year. San Antonio had an individual score of 10-2 and lost just six sets throughout the championship.
“Blossom Over the Netters” play out of N.E.I.S.D Blossom Tennis Center and are captained by Rosemary Vernor and Co-Captain Bev Williams. Their roster includes Lera Borden, Ruby Culp, Ruth Dekruyff, Cherie Kassinger, Katie Reed, Florence Scrafield, Martha Stevenson and Nancy Tisdall.
Men's 6.0 Champions - Dallas
Dallas earned the 6.0 Men’s title for the second straight year, going 4-0 and 11-1 in individual score, identical to 2016. The team lost just four sets throughout the weekend.
"High Point/Bender-Rosini M6.0" play out of High Point Park Tennis Center in Plano and are captained by Dennis Rosini. Their roster consists of: George Bednarz, Robert Bender, Paul Berlfein, Paul Britton, Jerry Kwiecien, Bo McNurlen, Ross Montelbano, Larry Parnell and Tom Ray.
Ladies 7.0 Champions - Wild San Antonio
Wild San Antonio took a tight Ladies 7.0 division, defeating San Antonio 2-1 in the semifinals before downing Austin 2-1 in the finals. Wild San Antonio handed San Antonio and Austin its only losses of the weekend, as all three teams were 4-0 going into the playoffs.
"Sonterra Sizzle" play out of The Club at Sonterra and are captained by Lorenza Sandusky. Their players are Sue Baillio, Ruth Bates, Rainy Evans, Maria James, Joanne Johnson, Leticia Munoz, Cora Outlaw and Janiss Sorrell.
Men's 7.0 Champions - Houston
Houston earned a hard-fought win in the Men's 7.0 division, defeating Fort Worth 2-1 to be crowned 2017 7.0 65 & Over Champions. Houston shared the same individual score as Austin and lost more sets in flight play, but defeated Austin when it mattered most, posting the only undefeated record in the division.
“Missouri City - Quail Valley Aces" play out of the Missouri City Recreation and Tennis Center in Missouri City and are captained by Tony De Santis and co-captain Gautam Adhia. Their roster includes Don Avera, Don Cooper, Parsons Jim, Larry Lowers, Luis Montilva, Gene Saylors, Jack Shubert, Robert Smith, Yulim Tey, David Wang and Babu Zachariah.
Ladies 8.0 Champions - Fort Worth
Fort Worth swept the Ladies 8.0 division, going 5-0 with an individual score of 11-4. Every other team in the division lost at least two team matches.
"TCU Irwin" plays out of Bayard H Friedman Tennis Center and is captained by Maggie Irwin. Their roster consists of Glenda Allen, Kathy Ayres, Sissy Boll, Joan Cordell, Kathy Coughran, Jackie Daniel, Julia Dobbins, Nancy Duncan, Patty Hepp-Perez and Sarah Stevens.
Men's 8.0 Champions - Houston
Houston won the Men's 8.0 Championship for the third straight year, taking the title 3-0 over Dallas. Houston shared the same record as Fort Worth of 2-1 in flight play, but posted a better individual score at 7-2.
"Team Peterson" is captained by David Peterson. Their roster includes David Camp, Brian Engel, Aubrey Frazier, Gary Hirshey, George Orchard, Robert Schmidt and Ronald Wells.
