2017 USTA TEXAS SUMMER CAMP SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS
USTA Texas is honored to present the USTA Texas Summer Camp Scholarship to 10 players. Each scholarship winner is matched with a tennis camp in the state. The applicants were reviewed using a matrix system that included a written essay, report card, personal statements, and recommendation letters from both a tennis coach and school official.
“I believe the next step that would help me achieve my goal to take my tennis to the next level would be to participate in a summer camp,” says Marco Rodriguez, a recipient of the USTA Texas Summer Camp Scholarship. “Being from a large family, there is not always enough money for extracurricular activities.”
The week-long scholarship program helps junior players learn and develop their tennis skills alongside coaches who have years of experience. The camps also allow players to meet friends and compete with individuals from around Texas.
In her essay, Karstyn Salazar, a recipient of the USTA Texas Summer Camp Scholarship, stated “My favorite experience in a group lesson or clinic is meeting new people and improving my skills. I love going to camps or hitting groups where I don’t know everyone and making new friends.”
