2018 ADULT 55 & OVER SECTIONAL RESULTS
Dallas led the way with three titles and NETX won two at the Adult 55 & Over Sectional Championships in Beaumont from September 21-23. NOHO and San Antonio will also be sending teams to the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Florida for the 2018 USTA League 55 & Over National Championships held throughout the month of October.
NETX boasted the best record in the Ladies 6.0 division, going 3-1 on the weekend and an individual record of 9-3. The team will head to the USTA National Campus on October 19-21 for the Adult 55 & Over 6.0 National Championships.
“Ritch – Longview” are captained by Karen Ritch and features players Tammy Cloud, Leigh Anne Delk, Barbara Hickey, Cynthia Horsley, Kathy Huffstuttler, Laura Jones, MaryBeth Reeves, Phyllis Voyles and Kandy Wharton.
Dallas took this year’s Men’s 7.0 crown, defeating Houston 2-1 in the finals. The team will be at the National Campus on October 26-28 for the Adult 55 & Over 7.0 National Championships.
“Huffhines/Clark M7.0” are captained by Keith Clark and play out of Huffhines Tennis Center in Richardson. The team roster is made up of the following: Rene Alzuro, Mier Brown, Shyh-Ming Chern, Mike Fincher, Leonard Hutchinson, Kerry Keener, Mark Myers, Tom Schindler, Mark Sweeney, Tex Torrez and Jeffrey Yarbrough.
NETX won the Ladies 7.0 Championship in a tight match-up, defeating Fort Worth 2-1 in the finals after beating the Valley 3-0 in the semifinals. NETX will play in the Adult 55 & Over National Championships from October 26-28 at the USTA National Campus.
“Bryant – Longview HS” are captained by Sherry Bryant. Their roster is comprised of 13 players: Jane Ball, Leslie Chamness, Cindy Coleman, Debbie Conner, Karen Cook, Charlotte Jackson, Margaret Leitner, Amelia Maxwell, Pam Phinny, Debra Richardson, Brenda Thomas and Debbie Turner.
NOHO won this year’s Men’s 8.0 Championship after falling in the finals last year. The team went 3-0 in flight play before defeating Austin 2-1 in the finals. NOHO will travel to the National Campus in Orlando from October 19-21 for the Adult 55 & Over 8.0 National Championships.
“Woodlands-Spearman” are captained by Michael Spearman and co-captained by Phil Kerig. NOHO’s roster includes: Marc Beauchamp, Andre Beridon, Tom Caine, Brian Engel, Bethuel Gabriel, Eddie Janek, Chad Johnson, Paul Raiford, Thomas Rapson, Eric Schultz, Kenneth Sjoberg, Darrel Thorson, Ron Travis and David Valenti.
Ladies 8.0 Champions – San Antonio
San Antonio punched their ticket to Nationals by defeating Abilene 2-1 in the finals of the Ladies 8.0 division. The team will travel to the USTA National Campus for the Adult 55 & Over 8.0 National Championships from October 19-21.
“Senioritas” are captained by Anita Wilkinson and play out of Shavano Park Tennis Club. San Antonio’s roster: Kathryn Bibb, Sharron Blair, Pauline Bourgeois, Debbie Brady, Jill Briggs, Brook Harris, Connie Miller, Elizabeth Ojeda, Marianne Ryan, Lisa Spalla and Lisa Tramontano.
Dallas won all four of its matches, going 4-0 and will be the city representing Texas in the 9.0 division for the second straight year. The team will be heading to Orlando from October 26-28 for the Men’s 9.0 National Championships.
“Brookhaven/Goswami M9.0” are captained by Tridib Goswami and play out of Brookhaven Country Club. The team sports a roster of 14 players: Tom Adcock, Roger Anderson, Brad Bartlett, Dale Christian, Pete Dempster, David Hall, Garvin Hassell, Mark Lafarve, John Mulleady, Ken Moraif, Malcolm Renwick, David Ware and Anthony Williams.
Dallas took the Ladies 9.0 Championship by beating Austin 2-1 in the finals of the Ladies 9.0 division. Dallas shared the same team record as NOHO of 2-1 in flight play but made it through to the finals with a better individual score. The team booked its trip to the National Campus for October 26-28 for the Ladies 9.0 National Championships.
“LifeTime Fitness/Johnson W9.0S” are captained by Cynthia Johnson and play out of Life Time Athletic Plano. The team features players Ruth Brown, Sallie Canan, Trish Chandler, Cheryl Halpern, Kate Poplin Ikeda, Debbie Koporec, BJ Landers, Suzanne Ortolano, Gayle Prejean, Jackie Reily, Lynn Rush and Julie Salomon.
