2018 ADULT 65 & OVER  SECTIONAL RESULTS

Fort Worth and San Antonio each won two titles, while Dallas and Waco took home the others at the Adult 65 & Over Sectional Championships from November 2-4 in New Braunfels.

 

Ladies 6.0 Champions - San Antonio

San Antonio won its fourth straight Ladies 6.0 division, going undefeated in flight play before defeating Fort Worth 2-1 in the finals. The team finished with an individual score of 8-1 in flight play, losing just three sets along the way.

 

“Blossom Over the Netters” play out of N.E.I.S.D Blossom Tennis Center and are captained by Rosemary Vernor and Co-Captain Bev Williams. Their roster included all 10 champions from last year and features: Lera Borden, Ruby Culp, Ruth Dekruyff, Colleen Freeman, Cherie Kassinger, Katie Reed, Florence Scrafield, Martha Stevenson, Nancy Tisdall and Susan Willoughby.

Men's 6.0 Champions - Dallas

Dallas won its third straight Men's 6.0 title, going 3-0 with an 8-1 individual score. The team lost just four sets throughout the weekend.

 

"High Point/Bender-Rosini M6.0" play out of High Point Park Tennis Center in Plano and are captained by Dennis Rosini. Their roster consists of: George Bednarz, Paul Berlfein, Paul Britton, Jerry Kwiecien, Ross Montelbano, Larry Parnell, Tom Ray and Keith Seibold.

Ladies 7.0 Champions - Fort Worth

Fort Worth was the final team to make the semifinals but were also the final team standing in the Ladies 7.0 division, beating NETX 2-1 in the semis before beating Austin 2-1 in the finals. Fort Worth finished runner-up to Austin in their flight after falling 2-1 on Friday morning, but avenged its loss on Sunday in the championship.

 

"ATC Jowers" play out of Arlington Tennis Center and are captained by Judy Jowers. Their players are Karen Brown, Carole Green, Pet Guerra, Claire Harrison, Gayle Howington, Jennifer Jiles, Nancy Kearney, Peggy Merritt, Carol O'Hanlon, Monique Robinson and Julie Theilken.

Men's 7.0 Champions - Waco

Waco dominated the weekend, going 4-0 in flight play before sweeping Fort Worth 3-0 in the finals. Waco and Fort Worth both shared an individual score of 10-2 in flight play, but Waco had the fewest sets lost (5) and games lost (78).

 

"Prehistoric Guajolotes" are captained by Stormy Reeves. Their roster has 12 players -- Randal Adair, Steve Arocha, Andrew Campbell, Dieter Daly, Craig Gold, Tom Goforth, William Koziol, James Longbotham, Keith Pate, Ron Pate and Robert Stovall.

Ladies 8.0 Champions - San Antonio

San Antonio took the Ladies 8.0 division, defeating Waco 3-0 in the finals on Sunday. Fort Worth, Houston and San Antonio all shared the same record of 2-1 after flight play, but San Antonio posted the best individual score of 7-2 to make it through to the finals.

 

"San Antonio" are captained by Kay Hendrix. Their roster consists of Lindsay Barton, Roxanne Campos, Luz Cantor, Brook Harris, Constance Hassan, Kitty Jordan, Cathy Main, Carol Robalin and Deborah Threadgill.

Men's 8.0 Champions - Fort Worth

Fort Worth topped Austin for the men's 8.0 title, winning 2-1 in the finals on Sunday. Fort Worth went 4-0 in flight play, losing just one match throughout the weekend.

 

"Thames" is captained by Bud Thames and co-captained by James McBurney. Their roster includes Robert Barrie, Grady Chandler, Danny Haddox, Kent Harris, Michael McGinn, Albert Meredith, George Orchard, Stephen Osborn, Tom Roberts and Bill Stetzer.
