2018 TEXAS JTT SPRING SECTIONAL RESULTS

Houston won five of the six divisions, as 63 teams and nearly 400 players participated in the 2018 USTA Texas JTT Spring Sectionals.

 

King Daddy Purple Tornadoes (Houston) won the 10U Green Dot title, defeating WCC The Mavs (Austin) 35-9 in the championship. The Purple Tornadoes lost just one set on Saturday leading to the semifinals, where they beat DTEA Cheetah Champions (Dallas) 31-18. The team is led by captain Jane Strnadel and feature team members: Shaan Bhagia, Katiana Gonzalez, Laila Nguyen, Aadya Sachdeva, Sophie Tahtouh and Eric Yan.

 

In the 12U 1.9 and Below division, Tennis Ballers (NETT) edged out Boerne Double Trouble (San Antonio) 30-28 to win the title. The third-place match was also incredibly tight, with T Bar M Green Ball Go Getters (Dallas) taking a 26-25 consolation match against RippnerSouthies (Austin). Tennis Ballers are captained by Linda Hayes and have a roster of five players: Gentry Eddins, Ava Gilbert, Brody Knowles, Alexander Ochranek and Peyton Pham.

King Daddy Red Tornadoes (Houston) followed up their win in the fall with a title in the 12U 2.4 and Below division at Spring Sectionals. King Daddy beat Lifetime Athletic Plano 32-22 in the semis and Missi's Mariners (Fort Worth - South) 36-17 in the finals. Captain Lance Hadfield led the team, consisting of: Nait Alexander, Rebecca Bukhman, Sierra Hatfield, Conor Orchard, Vincent Rivas, Pratik Sahajwani and Catherine Shen.

 

HRC Jedi (Houston) put together a dominant performance in the 14U 2.4 and Below division, winning over 81% of its games on Saturday and going 18-0 in sets. They followed up Saturday's performance with a 36-6 victory in the semis over Sonterra Team Dominators (San Antonio) and a 36-7 win in the finals over Dare Doubles (NETT). HRC Jedi are captained by Dominique Moran and include: Aidan Fulton, Chatham Griffiths, Matthew Johnston, Carson Lewis, Alexandra Moran, Virginia Moran, Wade Richter and Sadie Stock.

 

Both the semifinals and finals matches came right down to the wire for Cypress Aces (Houston) in the 14U 3.4 and Below division, but both came out in their favor for them to win the title. The team defeated Groovin Moovin Raquets (Abilene) in the semis 25-22, then took the championship 26-22 from Wildcard King Daddy Blue Tornadoes. The team is captained by Alejandro Montes and has eight roster members: Bardo Bucknell, Emma Eads, Lauren Green, Evan Hammerstein, Kylee Pike, Abby Porter, Roberto Vazquez and Lucas White. 

 

Finally, the 18U 3.4 and Below division also had a Fairfield team win, with Smashtros (Houston) winning it all. The team beat Wildcard Sonterra Team Strike (San Antonio) 35-18 in the semis and STA Drop Shots (Austin) 31-21 in the finals to win. Smashstros captain is Alejandro Montes and their roster includes: Elise Barlow, Grant Curington, Justin Hensley, Jessica Nelson, Ethan Reader, Nicholas Smeltzer and Alexandra Thompson.

18U 3.4 and Below boys – Robert Friedl from STA Drop Shots (Austin)
