2019 ADULT 18-39 SECTIONAL RESULTS
Six winners were crowned at the first-ever USTA Texas 18-39 Sectional Championships on Sunday, September 15.
Women’s 3.0 Champions – San Antonio
San Antonio took home the Women’s 3.0 division title, beating out San Angelo for the top spot. The champs won seven of nine in individual score, winning 59% of its games.
“TTP 3.0” are captained by Nikita Ruparel and play out of The Tennis Park at Whispering Oaks. Their roster includes Yasemin Crowe, Shivani Ruparel, Abby Knoche, Nancy Gonzalez, Mackenzie Cross, Sarah Kazen and Petrina Gerogianni.
Women’s 3.5 Champions – NETX
NETX and Dallas tied in team score and individual score, but NETX came away victorious thanks to having fewer sets lost over the course of the weekend. NETX also won 59% of its games, going 129-82 overall.
“McElmurry” are captained by Sharyn McElmurry. The team features team members Amber Lewis, Holly Hamilton, Crissy Forrest and Patricia Dailey.
Women’s 4.0 Champions – Dallas
Dallas earned the Women’s 4.0 title, beating out Austin and Dallas for the top spot. Dallas went 8-4, winning 62% of its total games.
“Greenhill/Murphy W4.0S” are captained by Tara Murphy and play out of Greenhill Tennis Center in Addison. The team includes a roster of Jessica Rice, Kyra Jansen, Cassi Cole, Robyn Krivacic, Melanie Truxal, Andrea Klinefelter and Erika Fox.
Men’s 4.0 Champions – San Antonio
San Antonio was the only undefeated squad in the four-team Men’s 4.0 division, earning the title over Houston, SETX and Austin. San Antonio won each match 2-1 to finish with an individual score of 6-3.
“TCSA” are captained by Kyle Gordon, co-captained by Robert Davis and play out of McFarlin Tennis Center. Their roster features Neris Cruver, Arturo Rivera, Derrick Kinsey, Alfonso Hernandez and Corey Kruseman.
Women’s 4.5+ Champions – Houston
Houston dominated the Women’s 4.5 division, going 3-0 in flight play with an individual score of 8-1. The team had the highest games won percentage of any team in the tournament, going 105-62 for a total of 63% games won.
“Backhanded Compliments” are captained by Amanda Barkema and play out of Homer Ford Tennis Center. Their roster boasts players Alice Havner, Nzingha Banks, Elizabeth Crider, Krista Melish, Angela Bonilla, Adrienne Isaac and Leslie Petros.
Men’s 4.5+ Champions – Austin
Despite Dallas winning more games, Austin won 2-1 in the Men’s 4.5+ division. Both teams were extremely close, both tying at 10 sets apiece and Austin just edging out Dallas with a 5-4 individual score.
“Vipers1839” are captained by Chien Tin Tung, co-captained by Patrick Burns and play out of UT Whitaker. The team’s roster includes Michael Woods, Lewis Goode, D’Artagnan Bebel, Gregory Nelson, Liran Braun, Robert Hallberg, Joseph Barry, Thomas Leyden, Maximo Agoglia, Andres Corredor and Sam Heinrich.
