2023 Randy Snow Wheelchair Tennis Service Award
Congratulations to the winner of the 2023 USTA Texas Randy Snow Wheelchair Tennis Service Award, Gary Lund.
Established in 2009, this award honors those who demonstrate excellence in or dedication to growing Wheelchair Tennis in Texas. Learn more about this award.
Gary Lund was first introduced to tennis at the age of 10 in Woodstock, N.Y. With wood racquets, white uncompressed tennis balls, and about five months of playable weather, Gary would hit with anyone who showed up to the courts – after the snow melted, of course. Regularly volunteering with Special Olympics would lead him to Adaptive Tennis, then Wheelchair Tennis some 15 years later.
It brings Gary great joy to watch his athletes train on court and develop both as players and people, all while having fun. And, he hopes that one day, one of his own players will become as great as his award's namesake.
Gary's "words of wisdom" come from a man who has inspired tennis enthusiasts of all ages, abilities, beliefs and backgrounds:
"Every endeavor pursued with passion produces a successful outcome, regardless of the result. For it is not about winning or losing, but rather the effort put forth into producing the outcome. The best way to predict the future is to create it."
