2023 W. T. Caswell Service Award

Congratulations to the winner of the 2023 USTA Texas W. T. Caswell Service Award, Fernando Velasco.

Established in 1962, this award honors an individual who has made valuable contributions to the growth and development of tennis across the state, working as a volunteer within the framework of USTA Texas. Learn more about this award.

Fernando Velasco was first introduced to tennis at the age of 20, after emigrating to the US with his family from Cochabamba, Bolivia. Since then, he has won countless industry awards and worn various tennis hats: player, coach, tennis pro, facility owner and manager, Executive Director, and of course, volunteer.

Fernando's involvement, passion, and advocacy for tennis at the local, section, and national levels span almost six decades. His dedication, service, and love of our sport are simply unmatched. And, while he undoubtedly has had many proud tennis moments in his life, his favorite memories are now made playing with his 11 grandchildren. Here’s to many more! (Well, memories, that is.)
