Texans at the 2024 US Open
The US Open Grand Slam tournament began on Monday, August 26 and as per usual Texas tennis is being represented in New York City.
Texas Longhorn Eliot Spizzirri and Dallas-Fort Worth native Mitchell Krueger fought their way through qualifying to earn a spot in the main draw of the event. Krueger will face Hugo Grenier and Spizzirri will face Alex Michelsen in the First round.
Texas connections at the US Open are dominated by players with college ties to the Lone Star State. John Peers (Baylor), Jackson Withrow (Texas A&M) and Nathaniel Lammons (SMU) will compete in Men’s Doubles. Arthur Rinderknech (Texas A&M) who plays for France, competing in Men's Singles. Former Texas Longhorn and NCAA Women’s Singles champion Peyton Stearns faces Lesia Tsurenko in the first round.
Other competitors include Dallas resident Ashlyn Krueger, winner of the 2023 Veneto Open, Texas A&M Aggie Mary Stoiana, and 2022 Wimbledon Girls Singles championship, Liv Hovde. Stoiana, and Hovde lost in qualifying while Krueger faces off against Zhang Shuai. Krueger will also be playing doubles with fellow American Sloane Stephens.
