Golovanov, Vaughn, Perez Claim Texas Slam Titles
PLANO, Texas -- A handful of past champions return for victory at the 2025 Texas Slam junior tennis tournament in Plano. Mason Vaughn of Austin claimed the Boys 18 & Under Title defeating his doubles partner AJ Deem of Fort Worth 7-6(9), 6-3. Vaughn won the Boys 16s in the 2024 tournament.
In the Girls 18 & Under FInal, number 8-seeded Emily Golovanov of Katy defeated 3-seed Evelyn Whiteside of San Antonio 7-6(3), 6-2. Golovanov previously won the Girls 14s at the Texas Slam in 2022.
In the second year of junior wheelchair Tennis, No-1 seeded Jeremy Perez of Joshua claimed the Coed Wheelchair Title for a second year in a row. He won 4-0 in round-robin matches and didn’t drop a set. He also claimed a share of the Coed Wheelchair Doubles title along with partner Lily Terral of Houston.
2025 Tournament Director, Walt Williams, said the tournament went great and yet again brought outstanding tennis.
“The level of competition in this tournament is the best of the best here in Texas,” Williams said. “It’s not just about the competition, but also the camaraderie and the sportsmanship among all of the players is fantastic.”
The 2025 Texas Slam was hosted by the Dallas Professional Tennis Association in partnership with the City of Plano and High Point Tennis Center. The event is a USTA Level 3 Closed Junior Tournament, meaning only players residing in the geographic boundaries of USTA Texas are eligible to compete in the event. The tournament’s history dates back to 1900.
