Texans at the 2023 US Open
The US Open Grand Slam tournament began on Monday, August 28 and as per usual Texas tennis is being represented in New York City.
Texan Fiona Crawley fought her way through qualifying to earn a spot in the main draw of the event. Crawley, a San Antonio native will face Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in the First round.
Texas connections at the US Open are dominated by players with college ties to the Lone Star State. Cameron Norrie, Men’s Singles who plays for Great Britain, attended TCU, Jackson Withrow (Texas A&M) and Nathaniel Lammons (SMU) will compete in Men’s Doubles. Arthur Rinderknech (Texas A&M) who plays for France, competing in Men's Singles. Former Texas Longhorn and NCAA Women’s Singles champion Peyton Stearns faces Viktoriya Tomova in the first round.
Dallas resident and holder of the title for most aces in the history of the ATP Tour, John Isner, returns for his seventeenth and final US Open, after announcing his intention to retire following the event. He faces Argentinian Facundo Diaz Acosta in Round 1.
Other competitors include Dallas resident Ashlyn Krueger, winner of the 2023 Veneto Open, Texas A&M Aggie Mary Stoiana, University of Texas Longhorn Eliot Spizzirri, and 2022 Wimbledon Girls Singles championship, Liv Hovde. Stoiana, Spizzirri, and Hovde lost in qualifying.
