Bids Open For Largest Texas Junior Tennis Event
USTA Texas is accepting bids to host the Texas Slam, one of the largest junior tennis tournaments in the United States. The event features competition for both boys and girls from Texas across four age divisions and includes both singles and doubles. Held annually in June, the tournament regularly features nearly 1,000 competitors.
The bid for the Texas Slam is for one year, 2024, but includes the possibility of extending hosting for two additional years, in 2025 and 2026. Requirements include presenting access to sufficient court space, accommodations, and amenities for hosting an event of this scale and prestige.
USTA Texas Executive Director, Fred Viancos said the Texas Slam has a long legacy and annually sets the standard for junior tennis tournaments in Texas.
“Generations of Texas tennis players, myself included, have made lasting memories competing in the Texas junior sectionals and we’re looking for bidders who can continue that legacy into the future,” he said.
Melissa Chambers, Chair of the USTA Texas Junior Competition committee said the section is looking for applicants that have an established history of running large scale, quality events.
"The committee's goal for the Slam has been to create the best sectional opportunity for our Texas Section players that incorporates a high level of play, an ideal schedule and a top-notch tournament experience," she said.
For 2024, the Texas Slam will also include boys and girls wheelchair divisions, a first for the tournament.
The Texas Slam was hosted in Georgetown, Texas in 2021, 2023, and 2023 with the finals held on the Southwestern University campus. Other prior host cities include Abilene and College Station.
