Best of Texas Tennis 2022 Results
AUSTIN, Texas – After three weeks of voting, USTA Texas announced the winners of its inaugural Best of Texas Tennis awards on August 29.
Over 74,000 votes were cast across 23 categories to choose the best individuals, programs and organizations in the Texas tennis community. This year, voters picked their favorites from a slate of 174 nominees.
The 2022 winners span the state of Texas, with multiple winners from large metro areas like Dallas-Fort Worth and Austin, but also smaller towns like Tomball and Weatherford. Unlike previous awards programs, nominations and voting for the Best of Texas Tennis were driven by the Texas tennis community and were open to both USTA members and non-members.
USTA Texas Executive Director, Van Barry, said the reception of these awards shows the positivity and support that so many have for tennis in their local areas and across the state.
"The huge response to Best of Texas Tennis is really a testament to the passion and community that we have around tennis here in Texas," Barry said. "We're proud to recognize these Texans, and it's incredible to see them recognized by their peers in the wider tennis community."
In recognition of their achievement, winners will receive a custom Best of Texas Tennis plaque or banner, and of course, bragging rights as the best in their category for 2022.
In the Best Adaptive Tennis program category, co-winners ACEing Autism Dallas and Buddy Up Tennis Dallas both received over 4,700 votes. In the spirit of collaboration and teamwork, as the groups often work together, the two programs requested to share the top prize and title in their category.
Over 20,000 votes were cast for best High School Coach, with Rich Hammons of Brownfield High School in West Texas coming out on top. Close behind wast the runner-up, Wills Point High School’s Ann Daniell, by a little over 100 votes, but both received over 4,550 votes.
The individual receiving the most votes overall was Arnaud Guillemard of San Antonio, who won Best Junior Tournament Director with 5,166 votes.
Nominations were open July 16-31, and voting took place August 8-21. Voters could cast one vote per nominee per day throughout the voting period.
