Texas Invited to Pick the “Best of Texas Tennis”
On Saturday, July 16, USTA Texas launched Best of Texas Tennis, a new awards competition event where members of the Texas tennis community can highlight their favorite individuals, organizations, and programs across the state.
The Best of Texas Tennis awards recognize those who portray excellence in the tennis community through individual, organization, and program awards. This year's awards will be open to members of the wider community: both USTA and non-USTA members are eligible to nominate, vote and be recognized. These awards have been developed as an evolution of the USTA Texas Community Development Awards which highlighted grassroots contributions by individuals and organizations to Texas tennis.
Van Barry, USTA Texas Executive Director, said the new awards competition will give all members of the Texas tennis community a chance to recognize and celebrate outstanding contributions to the sport in a fun and interactive way.
"We're very excited to launch Best of Texas Tennis. This is a chance for folks around the state to share and recognize the amazing people, places and programs in Texas,” Barry said. “This is a brand new approach to these awards, and we think it's going to open the doors for more fantastic members of the Texas tennis family to be seen and celebrated."
The inaugural edition of Best of Texas Tennis features 24 categories including those recognizing tournament directors, community tennis associations, school coaches, collegiate tennis programs and more. Nominating and voting take place virtually through a specialized digital platform with opportunities for nominators, voters and nominees to share and rally support for their favorites.
The campaign is broken down into two phases: a nomination period open July 16-31, and a voting period from August 8-21. There are no limits on the number of nominees a person can submit, the number of nominations a nominee can receive, or the number of categories a nominee can be nominated for. During the voting period, an individual can vote once daily per nominee per category and can vote within multiple categories each day.
The announcement of winners and finalists will take place between Aug. 29 and Sept. 2 to coincide with the first week of the 2022 US Open. To learn more, nominate and vote, visit http://bit.ly/bott22.
