An established coach and prominent presence in the Texas tennis community, Bonilla channels his deep court experience into his role on the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Committee—fueling the journeys of rising athletes as they transition from local courts to college rosters and professional tours.

USTA Texas: Why did you start volunteering with USTA Texas?

JP Bonilla: I had several people believe in me so I really enjoy helping others achieve their goals & paying it forward!

USTA Texas: What’s been the most rewarding part of your experience?

Bonilla: The priceless feeling of seeing players make the team, or go on to play college and go on the Pro tour after!!!

USTA Texas: What is one thing you want prospective committee applicants to know about serving with USTA Texas?

Bonilla: You are only 1 person away from meeting a USTA Committee member that will absolutely change your life. It ain't what you know but who you know, & who they know so networking is my best suggestion for new committee members!

USTA Texas: What are you most proud of from your time volunteering with the section?
