Committee Member Spotlight: Kelly McCullough

When Kelly McCullough first stepped onto the court as a USTA League team captain in 2012, she discovered a passion for the sport that quickly extended beyond competition. Her involvement with Northeast Tarrant Tennis opened her eyes to the vast, behind-the-scenes network of volunteers driving the game forward, inspiring her to help expand play opportunities across the Lone Star State. Driven to make a lasting impact off the court, she officially joined the USTA Texas volunteer ranks in 2021 as a member of the Leagues Committee.

Now serving as the USTA Texas League Chair, McCullough channels that foundational dedication into leading statewide recreational tennis initiatives. By fostering strong connections among players, committee members, and local communities, she bridges grassroots involvement with section-wide leadership—ensuring that Texas leagues remain a vibrant, welcoming home for players of all levels.

Q&A with Leagues Chair and Discipline & Grievance Committee Member Kelly McCullough:

USTA Texas: Why did you start volunteering with USTA Texas?

Kelly McCullough: I first got involved with USTA as a team captain in 2012. As I became more interested in the organization of tennis I discovered my local Community Tennis Association, Northeast Tarrant Tennis (NETT).

Attending a USTA Texas meeting opened my eyes to the incredible network of volunteers working behind the scenes to grow the game, and I was immediately hooked. I realized I wanted to contribute beyond the court by helping create opportunities for more people to play and enjoy tennis. That passion led me to begin volunteering with USTA Texas in 2021, serving on the Leagues Committee. 

USTA Texas: What’s been the most rewarding part of your experience?

McCullough: Becoming League Chair in 2024 has been the most rewarding part. It’s been incredibly fulfilling to take on a leadership role for the  Texas section—foster connections among players and members of the committee across the state and contribute to the growth and success of our Texas leagues.
