In Memoriam: Hall of Famer Ed Chew
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our dear friend and Hall of Fame member Ed Chew who passed away on May 4, 2020.
Ed Chew began his tennis career in El Paso by winning the 12 and under City Championship. At El Paso High School Chew won the UIL Doubles title in 1944 and 1945. He was a four-year letterman at the University of Texas from 1946 to 1949. Chew continued to play tennis after college and won 10 doubles tournaments. He served tennis in numerous positions within El Paso and Texas.
Chew served as President of the Texas Tennis Association (now USTA Texas) from 1979 to 1980. In 1980, he received the W.T. Caswell Service Award, given to the Texas resident who has made valuable contributions to the growth and development of tennis in Texas.
