In Memoriam: Dr. Alfredo Trevino
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our dear friend, former USTA Texas President (2011-2012) and longtime tennis leader and volunteer, Dr. Alfredo Trevino of Laredo, who passed away on Sunday, December 25.
Trevino was a trailblazer, becoming the first Hispanic president of USTA Texas. While most of us know him from his service to USTA Texas, the impact he made on his home community of Laredo will be felt for years and years to come.
USTA Texas President Kevin Collins said Trevino’s impact on tennis in the state is immeasurable.
“To most of us, he was "Dr. T" -- a friendly, effervescent ambassador of tennis, and the embodiment of what it meant to serve our sport through USTA Texas -- welcoming everyone he met with open arms,” Collins said.

Trevino’s wife, Tina, who alongside Alfredo contributed immensely to the sport in Texas, said he loved tennis and tennis loved him back.
"He was so proud to be the first Hispanic USTA Texas President, so he could be an example to other Hispanic players. He loved playing tennis passionately for friendship, family and fun,” she said. “He believed in the mission of growing the game and making sure anyone who wanted to play tennis could... no matter their age, ethnicity, or physical or cognitive abilities.”
