QUICK FACTS

● Name: Daniel Barajas

● Section: Texas

● Certification(s): USTA Certified Official, Referee Tier 1

Q&A:

When did you first become an Official?

I began officiating in 2019. My entire family is heavily involved in the tennis community. We all play. My wife and I officiate and my daughter runs the desk at tournaments.

What is your favorite part of Officiating events in your section?

The best part of officiating is building relationships with the tennis community (players, parents, coaches, etc.).

What is your most memorable moment in Officiating?

Some of the greatest moments are when we are able to help younger players overcome their fear of losing by getting them to love the idea of playing and competing. Sometimes the love of the game is lost in the pressure to win.

What advice do you have for a new Official?

My advice to new Officials is to adopt the attitude of being a “teacher of the game” especially when it comes to those players that are just getting started.
