The last and youngest Section of the USTA, plays an important role in tennis in the Caribbean, especially in Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands when in 1983 it became the seventeenth section of the United States. Its first president was the engineer Gilberto Marxuach, who led the Association for the first two years. Recently in 2019, Marxuach culminated his commitment to the Board of Directors after been involved all these years in different committees of the USTA at the Sectional and National level.
