Ethel Parker to receive Champion of Equality Award at 2026 US Open

The founder of Parker's Tennis Camp, Ethel Parker, will be honored as a "Champion of Equality" at the 2026 US Open for her dedication to children and parks programming in the Midwest Section, particularly in Toledo, Ohio.

For decades, Parker has volunteered with USTA Midwest. Powered by her passion for tennis and her commitment to creating opportunities for others, she has made a lasting impact on our community.

Parker will be named among the 2026 Champions of Equality at the US Open on Thursday, Sept. 10, coinciding with the women's semifinal matches.

The award ceremony launched in 2023 alongside the celebration of the US Open's 50th anniversary of equal prize money. Last year's event recognized award-winning director, producer and screenwriter Ava DuVernay with the third annual US Open Billie Jean King Champion of Equality Award. 

Ethel Parker graduated from the University of Toledo with a bachelor's degree in neuroscience. In addition to her high-pressure career, Parker has held many leadership roles. She's been a part of at least four USTA committees dating back to the 1980s. She's an award-winning tennis player, a National Senior Olympian, the captain of several championship teams and the past president of three different tennis associations.

"I want to give something back to the kids who had never played tennis at the clubs because they can’t afford it," Ethel shared during a previous interview with USTA Midwest.

For her decades of distinguished service, Ethel Parker was recognized as the 2023 recipient of the Mel Bergman - Section Diamond Service Award. Upon receiving the section's most prestigious award, the whole room stood up and cheered.

Last year, Jaime Oppenlander, the chair of the USTA Midwest Adaptive Committee, received the 2025 Champion of Equality Award among other trailblazers and leaders who represent the USTA's 17 sections across the country.
