Jim Tierney from Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., was honored with the Brad Parks Award at the 2026 USTA Annual Meeting & Conference, held in Orlando, Fla.

First presented in 2002 by the USTA and the International Tennis Hall of Fame, the Brad Parks Award is presented to a group or individual who promotes wheelchair tennis and provides opportunities for wheelchair players through the development of programs. The award honors the founder of the sport and 2010 Hall of Famer Brad Parks.

Jim Tierney is known as a "quiet dynamo" who has served the wheelchair tennis community in South Florida for 35 years. He has been instrumental in promoting the sport at the local and regional levels by organizing wheelchair tournaments and socials at the Palm Beach Gardens Tennis Center, collaborating with organizations such as Tropical Wheelchair Sports, and teaching youth and adults of all abilities, including quads and those with cognitive disabilities. Nationally, he directed the successful inaugural USTA Florida Wheelchair Team event at the USTA National Campus in April 2021.

“Jim has been a driving force in expanding wheelchair tennis in South Florida,” said Brian Vahaly, USTA President and interim co-CEO. “He has created more access, more opportunities, and a stronger sense of community for players. His leadership is hands-on, consistent, and deeply rooted in a belief that the sport should be open to everyone, which is exactly what the Brad Parks Award represents.”
