Tennis in Schools in USTA Missouri Valley

Tennis in PE curricula allows all students to experience success regardless of experience or ability through cooperative and play-based group activities. The use of age-appropriate tennis equipment, paired with progression activities, makes the game fun, safe and engaging from the moment a student first picks up a racquet.

Additionally, studies show that youth who play tennis have positive correlations to better grades, improved behavior in the classroom, and increased college aspirations.

Frequently Asked Questions About School Trainings

USTA School Tennis Trainings are for Physical Education Teachers.

This is a 3-hour hands-on workshop that will take Physical Education teachers through the progressions of learning to teach tennis in the physical education classroom. Teachers will learn how to adapt any space for tennis, especially non-traditional spaces, feel more comfortable and confident teaching basic tennis skills, get familiar with the equipment and resources available to them. Teachers will also learn activities and games that align with National SHAPE standards and Grade-Level Outcomes.

The training will jump-start the education/training for teachers, but we will also cover digital resources, curriculum, and how to access free equipment to support your school as a whole.

In the application, you will have the opportunity to select dates and locations that work for your school district. A gymnasium at your school is the perfect setting to learn how to run tennis in non-traditional spaces. Lastly, we encourage this to take place on a PD when teachers K-12 can participate.

By attending a school tennis training, you will learn how to adapt tennis to be fun, easy, and safe in your classroom (no tennis court needed), building your confidence and skills to offering tennis in your curriculum, either as an independent tennis unit or paired with a lifetime sports or racquet sports unit.

If you are interested in training opportunities for your teachers and schools, the school district's Curriculum Coordinator can apply here

We encourage this to take place on a PD when teachers K-12 can participate.
