Qualifying for the NTRP National Championships
Players who are interested in playing in the NTRP National Championships are HIGHLY encouraged to read all information found here. Specifically, players are encouraged to read the FAQ and Fact Sheet. All players who wish to play at NTRP Nationals must have a valid NTRP rating (i.e., NO self-rated (S) players) and must be on the specific NTRP Tournament Ranking List for the division in which they want to play.
The USTA Midwest Section has an allotted number of "automatic" spots available to Midwest players in the NTRP National Championships. This allotment is known as our “quota" spots. Midwest’s quota is two players in each singles division and two two-person teams in each doubles division.
Endorsement Procedures
To be endorsed for one of the Midwest's quota spots in the NTRP National Championships, the requirements are as follows:
- Quota Spot #1: Respective winners of the NTRP Section Championships will receive one quota spot in the corresponding division in which they played. Examples below:
- The winner of the NTRP 3.0 Men's 18+ Singles division will receive a quota spot for the NTRP 3.0 Men's 18+ Singles division at the National Championships
- The winners of the NTRP 3.0 Mixed Doubles division will receive a quota spot for the NTRP 3.0 Mixed Doubles division at the National Championships
- Quota Spot #2: The highest-ranked player/team on the NTRP Tournament Ranking Lists will receive one quota spot in the corresponding division in which they register AND are ranked. You can learn more about NTRP Tournament Ranking Lists here. Examples below:
- The highest-ranked player on the NTRP 3.0 Men's 18+ Singles list will receive a quota spot for the NTRP 3.0 Men's 18+ Singles division (NOTE: this player must register for this specific division).
- The highest-ranked team on the NTRP Tournament Ranking Lists will receive a quota spot. For doubles, this is the highest COMBINED ranking. For example, if Player A is ranked #1/Player B is ranked #74, and Player C is ranked #5/Player D is ranked #10, then Team C/D will be selected because their combined ranking is 15 as opposed to Team A/B, which has a combined ranking of 75. For Mixed Doubles, the top COMBINED ranking will also be selected based on the rankings from the Men’s and Women’s Mixed Doubles lists.
Please remember that if you are hoping to qualify for NTRP Nationals based on your NTRP Tournament Ranking, your ranking on any other ranking list will not suffice. For example, rankings for Women's 30+ Singles, Men's 60+ Doubles, Women's Open Singles, etc. do NOT qualify for NTRP Nationals.
IMPORTANT: All players who qualify for Nationals are required to register themselves at the tournament links found here. It is the sole responsibility of the player to register, and players risk not being selected for Nationals (even if they qualify for a Midwest quota spot) if they fail to register before the deadline.
Alternates
If an endorsed quota player/team does not register for the NTRP National Championships or otherwise cannot play, the next highest ranked player/team on the NTRP Tournament Ranking Lists will receive the quota spot in the corresponding division in which they register AND are ranked.
All players who are interested in playing at the NTRP National Championships are encouraged to register.
NTRP District Championships ("Qualifiers")
Each district in the USTA Midwest Section has the option to host an NTRP District Qualifier. Players are encouraged to play these events, and certain districts require that players play in order to be eligible for the NTRP Section Championships. Click here for district qualifier information.
Player's Responsibility in National Events
When you accept entry to the NTRP National Championships, it is your responsibility to appear. If you decide to withdraw before the entry deadline, please withdraw from the tournament online and inform the USTA Midwest office immediately so that another player can be added. If it is necessary for you to withdraw from a tournament after the entry deadline, please notify the tournament director and USTA Midwest office immediately.
All fees, including travel, lodging, food, etc., at the NTRP National Championships are the responsibility of the players.
Questions about endorsement can be sent to Sam Gentry (sam.gentry@midwest.usta.com).
