2023 Sportsmanship Nomination

Melissa was nominated by Terra - “Melissa and her partner Lori were the nicest opponents to play against and made very generous lines calls that many other teams would have called out.”

Lori was nominated by Terra - “Lori and her partner Melissa were the nicest opponents to play against and made very generous lines calls that many other teams would have called out.”

Molly was nominated by Rosemary - “Molly and Dana were so fun to play with and had great attitudes. They fought hard and were great competitors. The Yakima team was filled with great sportswomen and I look forward to playing them again.”

Molly was nominated by Tessa - “Molly is not just an amazing player, she has the best attitude.  We were competing in the 2.5 Women league and throughout the match her attitude never changed.  Both Dana and her are one of the sweetest and fair players we have seen.  The topping on the cake, she has an amazing zest for the game.  Even though, she lost, Molly did not feel down; she assessed her game and had more of an ambition to improve.  This is what healthy tennis competition is about!!!  We traded numbers so if either one of us are in each other's area we can scrimmage and learn from one another.

Having originally met her as an opponent on the other side of the net and ending up as tennis buddy after the match is priceless.”

Debora was nominated by Una - “Team Captain Debora and her Mountain Park 2.5 ladies team exhibited excellent sportsmanship before, during, and after our match. They played strong tennis and demonstrated grace and a positive attitude that was noticed and appreciated.  Its players like their teams that make tournament play enjoyable because they are mighty opponents and thoughtful and kind.”

Lee was nominated by Una - “Lee and her doubles partner were strong opponents, played excellent tennis, and exemplified sportsmanship in every action and word. They were kind, friendly, and gracious. They were a pleasure to play with.  They deserve to be recognized for exhibiting what tennis is about - being strong tennis players and that kindness goes a long way.”

Laura was nominated by Una - “Laura and her doubles partner were strong opponents, played excellent tennis, and exemplified sportsmanship in every action and word. They were kind, friendly, and gracious. They were a pleasure to play with.”

Karilyn was nominated by Chris - “Was very welcoming for everyone and made a large batch of various types of cookies to share with everyone in the observation area.”

Barbara was nominated by Edwardeen - “I am nominating Barb because she showed sportsmanship like I have never seen in a teammate in my 40+ years of playing sports.  Barb was our backup player for Sectionals, and though she knew that there was only the slightest chance that she might be able to play, she (1) showed up for every practice, working extremely hard; (2) showed up to every Sectionals match dressed in the team uniform and ready to step in if there was an emergency; and (3) supported the team members who played in the various lineups during Sectionals in every way possible, cheering us on and lifting us up when we were down.  The moment that really made me want to nominate Barb occurred on the morning of our 3.0 ladies final.  When my partner and I went to warm up at 7:45 am to for the 9:30 am final, we looked over and saw Barb warming up a few courts over, putting in the extra effort for our team and never asking for anything in return.  One hears so many stories about the selfishness of players on USTA league teams, and I wanted to recognize Barb for exhibiting that rare strength of character where she put the team ahead of herself.”

Charlotte was nominated by Donna - “A keen but honest competitor who insisted on buying us a drink after a hard fought match that went to a 3rd set tiebreak.”

Bobbie was nominated by Donna - “A pleasure to play against- very complimentary and at the end of our match that went to a 3rd set tiebreak insisted on buying us a drink. Just a real good sport.”

Krista was nominated by Tenley - “Krista demonstrates such support and sportsmanship for her team and fellow competitors.”

Abhinaya was nominated by Jill - “Great sportsmanship.”

Laura was nominated by Lisa - “An exemplary display of friend at court.  Whether you win or lose, you will get fair calls, pleasant demeanor and a smile from Laura.”

Trisha was nominated by Lisa - “A very pleasant opponent :) sets the tone for a great match!”
