USTA Northern Team Tennis helps girls and boys ages 6 to 18 get in the game, get on the court and have a good time. The emphasis is on skill development, fun, teamwork and friendly competition. There are a number of team tennis options available in USTA Northern for junior players of all ages and ability levels.

For more information about Team Tennis, click here.

Junior Team Tennis

Junior Team Tennis is the largest team tennis program in the United States. It is a "traditional" team tennis format where a minimum of three boys and three girls form a team based on Junior NTRP Ratings and compete for the right to advance to the National Championships. Leagues are available in the following categories: 14U Intermediate, 14U Advanced (3.5+ JNTRP), 18U Intermediate and 18U Advanced (3.5+ JNTRP).

Match formats consist of one set of boys singles, girls singles, boys doubles, girls doubles and mixed doubles and the match is determined by total-games won. There are minimum match requirements and you must compete in an Area championship in order to play at Section championships, and possibly the National championship.

Players must be a USTA Member to participate in Junior Team Tennis.

World Team Tennis

In addition to traditional Junior Team Tennis, USTA Northern is offering World Team Tennis. All you need are two courts, two girls, two boys and 90 minutes for this fast-paced format played at any level. Leagues are available in the following categories: 12U Beginner (Orange Ball, 60-ft. court), 12U Intermediate (Green Ball), 12U Advanced (Green Ball), 14U Beginner (Green Ball), 14U Intermediate (Yellow Ball), 18U Beginner (Green Ball), 18U Intermediate (Yellow Ball).

Match formats consist of one set of boys singles, girls singles, boys doubles, girls doubles and mixed doubles. Susbstitutions are allowed with overtime and power-up points. There are no individual match requirements and organizers do not have to use TennisLink. Teams will be invited to play in a non-advancing Section championship at the end of the season.

Players do not have to be a USTA member and will receive a T-shirt as part of their World Team Tennis registration.

These national-level resources and tools can be sculpted and put into place by the providers, who know their students, children, and communities’ best.

BENEFITS OF NET GENERATION

Joining Net Generation provides coaches/providers with a number of benefits:

  • Free Net Generation Coaching App
  • Comprehensive print and digital curricula
  • Customizable marketing materials to promote their programs
  • Free Equipment starter kits and/or welcome packs (depending on provider)
  • Free online and in-person training
  • Incentive packages and much more

Please visit www.netgeneration.com to register as a provider. If you are already a USTA member or using TennisLink, please use the same email address and password that you are using for those accounts. They are now all linked together. You will check all the boxes that pertain to you such as Junior Team Tennis coach, high school coach, tennis director, etc. Each of you will then need to watch the SafeSport video and complete a free background check if you have not already been approved.

In regards to your background check, NCSI will be sending you an email with your 16-digit code. We are finding that if you are a teacher and using your school email, the email from NCSI is going into your junk/spam email. If you do not hear from NCSI within 10 days, please go to https://www.ncsisafe.com/Members/applicant/applicantLookup.aspx to look up your 16-digit code.

Once you receive the code, please log into your Net Generation account, where is says Hello (your name), click on edit profile, then to the left click on provider information, scroll down to Safe Play Certification to enter your number. If you would like to learn more, or have any problems, please contact Sandy Smith at ssmith@northern.usta.com. Thank you in advance for joining Net Generation.
