ITF Wheelchair Masters Entry Lists Revealed for Orlando

The best wheelchair tennis players in the world will descend on the USTA National Campus in Orlando in November to compete for the right to be crowned the year-end champion.

The complete entry lists for the NEC Wheelchair Singles Masters and UNIQLO Wheelchair Doubles Masters, the International Tennis Federation's (ITF) annual grand finale on the UNIQLO Wheelchair Tennis Tour, were revealed on Wednesday.

The events will take place simultaneously from Nov. 19-26, as the singles event will be hosted by the USTA in Florida for the second straight year. 

Some recent history, however, will be made as the doubles event also comes to Orlando after being held in the Netherlands for the past two years.

For just the second time since 2002, both season-ending tournaments will be held at the same venue, and for the second time in seven years, at the same venue and the same time. This previously happened when both events were held in Mission Viejo, Calif., in 2013. 

The Top 8 men's and women's singles players and the Top 6 quad singles players according to rankings, who entered by Monday's deadline, qualified for the tournament, along with the Top 8 men's doubles pairings, the Top 6 women's doubles pairings and the Top 4 quad doubles pairings.

Eleven countries are represented in the singles field in the three disciplines, and the Netherlands leads the way with five. David Wagner, Nick Taylor, and Dana Mathewson make up the American contingent, and will compete in the men's quad singles (Wagner), men's quad doubles, and the women's doubles events, respectively. 

Five of the six players who won US Open trophies in New York are also in the field. Dual Open champion Alfie Hewett of Great Britain, who won the men's singles title and the doubles crown with compatriot Gordon Reid in New York, is in both draws, as is dual Open women's champion Diede de Groot (pictured above, right) of the Netherlands.

The world No. 1 will partner with fellow Dutchwoman Aniek van Koot (above, left) in doubles, after the pair completed the calendar-year Grand Slam in the discipline this year. 

Brit Andrew Lapthorne rounds out the group, winner of both titles in the quad division in New York, but he will have someone different by his side to compete for the year-end trophy. After winning in Flushing Meadows with Aussie Dylan Alcott, he will instead partner with Dutch player Sam Schroder in Orlando.
