Kailua 10-Year-Old to
Sing at US Open
August 30, 2017
Sabig Farag will be making history on September 7th, when she becomes the farthest-traveling contestant in US Open Anthem Audition history to sing on the big stage. The 10-year-old from Kailua, Hawaii was recently chosen to perform "America the Beautiful," a capella in front of thousands of fans at the 2017 US Open. This highly coveted spot was not easily earned. Sabia first submitted an online video audition earlier this summer and then travelled to New York for an in-person audition before a panel of five judges from the music and entertainment industries. Out of the 200 auditions received nationwide, Sabia was selected along with 12 other youth singers to sing at one of the most prominent sports events of the year.
The audition was Sabia's first time outside of Hawaii and it could not have come at a better time. ADVERTISEMENT The 10-year-old loves musical theater and celebrated her tenth birthday in New York with a memorable Broadway experience. Upon finding out the good news, Sabia said, "I feel very honored to sing in front of so many people. I really want to represent my beautiful home State of Hawaii and can't wait until September 7th. I am also very blessed that I get to go back to New York City for the second time."
Although this will be the biggest performance of her young singing career, Sabia is already quite familiar with showcasing her talent on stage. She was a finalist in the 2016 Hawaii Keiki Stars competition, the 1st Place Female Vocalist in her division at the 2017 'Iolani Talent Contest, and the 1st Place Female Vocalist & Overall Elementary Grand Champion in the 2017 Brown Bags to Stardom statewide finals. To add to her long list of achievements, in her first time auditioning for a role in musical theater, Sabia landed the lead role as Jasmine in the New Hope Youth Performing Arts Center's production of "Aladdin Jr."
Our Section is incredibly proud of Sabia and excited that she will be representing Hawaii on a national level. We cannot wait to hear her performance at the US Open and wish her much success in all of her endeavors.
