Colorado welcomes its one millionth league participant
Phyllis Glawe, a Littleton resident who plays out of Ken-Caryl Ranch registered for the ITA Mixed League on May 27, becoming Colorado's one-millionth league participant.
Since 1980, millions of players across the country have competed in USTA League Tennis, the nation's largest recreational tennis league. In that span of more than 40 years, Colorado has been among the leaders in annual participation. In fact, in the last dozen years, Denver has ranked first or second in league play nationally, a testament to the passion Mile High players have for the game.
After fewer than 1,000 players competed in the inaugural league season, it took more than 30 years for Colorado to register its 500,000th league participant, and then only 13 more years to hit the one million mark. Last year, more than 40,000 players registered for USTA Adult Leagues across the state, the sixth time in eight years participation has soared above the 40K mark.
